It marked the split between the three and four series but carried on the motorsport heritage and world-class performance its predecessors delivered to millions across the globe. Unfortunately, many view the generation as too big, too heavy, and not as soulful as the normally aspirated models of old.
Many of us at FCP Euro don't agree with that sentiment, and every conversation about it left us with one question: What does the perfect F82 M4 look like?
FCP Euro’s Ultimate One-Car Solution
Since BMW introduced turbocharging to the M3 platform, it opened up a performance envelope rivaling that of supercars and muscle cars. Our M4 CSi was built to bring the FCP Euro method to these new levels of performance. Applying FCP Euro’s legacy of DIY videos, high-detail catalog, and maintenance kits built from real-world experience, to one of the best performance values of the century, the BMW F82 M4. Now, with the support of FCP Euro, the M4 doesn’t just outperform supercars, it can outlast them, too.
BMW’s Golden Era is often seen as early DTM racing and Group A, with cars like the E30 M3 and Sharknose E24 635CSi. While BMW M purists adore these cars, what’s often overlooked is the brilliance and value of their modern-day road-going counterparts. Our M4 CSi reminds us that, while BMW’s heyday is glorious, a used BMW sports car in this day and age can match and exceed the performance of those legends. Now, it could even live in your own garage.
The Build, At a Glance:
Body
GTS splitter, Adro wing, Augment Wheels, and a wrap all themed around BMWs past, with nods to what lies underneath. Used for inspiration - the 635CSi group A carried BMW's big-body coupes into racing during the golden age. Today, the M4 shares a similar size and weight to those race-cars, ironically with far more punch. Genuine LCI headlights and Blackline euro-market LCI taillights, coded in by Alpine MSS, finish off the exterior.
Engine
Eventuri carbon charge pipes, carbon intake, and carbon engine. Twin-Evolve upgraded CHRA turbos. All new coolant lines, expansion tanks, and refreshed oil filter housing and water pump gaskets. Pinned crank hub. A Dinan in-line tuner makes for easy adjustment on the fly, with the ability to revert to stock at any time.
Drivetrain
Upgraded aluminum oil pan and magnetic drain plug, along with refreshed gaskets. A dual differential mount from revshift utilizes the second differential mount sleeve in the F8X subframe, providing much more durability than the factory rubber mount from 2014. Upgraded the GS7 DCT oil pan for extra capacity, cooling, and strength, using the fall-line billet oil pan.
Cooling
Upgraded CSF charge-cooler, supporting CSF aux coolers with rock guards, CSF oil cooler, and some clever duct-work with a Fall-Line stainless guard, give the S55s lifeline some margin for hot track-days, power-adders, and longevity.
Suspension
The M4CSi leverages KW DDC coilovers as they retain the factory EDC adjustment, adding a wider breadth of ability to the suspension. While our M4 may be show-car low, SPL bump-steer correction tie-rod ends and roll-center correction still give clarity at the limit. Even with 400mm stoppers backed with 500whp, dive and squat are kept to a communicative but controlled level.
Brakes
400mm steel-brakes using the M2 M-Sport rotors, while retaining the factory gold calipers, allows for nearly identical braking performance with motorsport-like usability. RB660 brake fluid keeps the boiling point high for sustained track use, and M Sport brake pads have sharp bite, even in low temperatures.
Exhaust
Just as the KW DDC suspension allowed our jack-of-all trades F82 to flourish on a B-road or at the track, an equal length Milltek mid-pipe and axle-back exhaust also hones this breadth of usability. Our M4’s factory rasp has been converted into a smooth but furious tone. At the top-end, with the valves open, the M4 CSi reminds us of BMWs past.
Interior
A genuine BMW M Performance steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara, complemented by MadTrace Magnetic shift paddles, brings GT4 vibes into the cabin. Configurable to show engine temperatures, lap times, G-forces, and of course - RPM. The feel of the magnetic click at your fingertips matches the powertrain under your right foot.
