The Volvo 900 series, introduced in 1990 to replace the previous 700 series was built until 1998 and was the last of the rear-wheel-drive Volvos. The 940 was very similar to the outgoing 740, with the sedan having softer curves in the rear and the wagon version being nearly unchanged.
